Richard SurteesRichard Surtees
Artist and Sculptor

There is a school of thought that we do not 'recover' from a period of ill health but that we come closer to, and can find our true self, through it.

Richard Surtees discovered a true aspect of himself in 2006 when a period of ill health led him to explore his creative potential which has now become a fundamental part of his life and work.

With no formal training Richard manipulates his raw talent into sensitive, stunning and visually beautiful works of art.

Using mainly recycled materials he experiments with a range of different media including clay, wood, wire and most recently paper.

With roots in traditional art Richard’s most recent work is growing into work that utilises metaphor and symbolism. This change of direction suggests a shift from representation to impressionism.

In 2006, with more than a little trepidation, Richard entered work into Worcestershire’s Annual World Mental Health Day Art Exhibition. His work was not only selected for exhibiting but created huge public interest and sold.
